This antenna takes advantage of the increased gain possible with narrowband
designs.  Instead of spreading the gain over a wide bandwidth, as is necessary
on 15 or 20 meters, all the gain potential is concentrated at one frequency by
shortening the reflector and lengthening the directors.  This technique cannot
be used everywhere, but for certain applications, such as in the narrow 12
meter band or weak signal work at 144.200 MHz, the gain increase can be
significant over wideband designs simply frequency-scaled to a narrow band.
